Biography

Dan had a 9-year professional football career in the NRL, playing 150 first-grade games with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Since his days as a professional athlete, Dan has been focussed on driving change by altering society’s perception of mental health issues and those struggling with them.

Dan was diagnosed with Type 2 bipolar disorder in 2010.  At the height of his mental illness and the struggle it presented, he felt alone and isolated as access to information was not readily or easily available. This made him feel vulnerable and fearful, as he thought it showed weakness in asking for help or assistance.

At the time, Dan knew there would be other people in similar situations experiencing similar issues who also needed access to helpful information and support. Although a challenging time in his own life, Dan knew if he could openly and honestly share his experiences, knowledge, and coping strategies, he would be able to assist others in better managing their mental health.

Dan’s own life experience and determination to help others inspired him to complete a degree in Social Work, along with Certificate 4’s and Diploma’s in Mental Health, Community Services, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Counselling, Fitness and Business.

Dan is now runs a specialist workplace mental health and safety company MHM, and he speaks to organisations large and small helping them foster supportive, safe, psychologically safe and productive work environments.  For teams and leadership groups, Dan has a suite of keynote talks, workshops, and 3-6mth workplace training programs.

Dan has helped companies across industry like John Holland, Newcastle Coal, OZ Minerals, Ausgrid, Boral, AGL, BlueScope, IMB Bank, St George Bank, Sydney Trains, Qantas, Veolia, Volvo, BHP Billiton, CHEP, Glencore, Endeavour Energy, Georges River Council and more.

Dan is driven and passionate about helping others and being the change the mental health space needs.
