Biography

Dr. Kate Raynes-Goldie empowers leaders and teams to thrive through curiosity, human connection, and purposeful play… all while celebrating the power of being and doing things differently. An internationally acclaimed human connection designer and PhD-trained business anthropologist, Kate is the Chief Connection Officer at The Up Next Company and a long running tech and innovation columnist with the Business News.

A Certified Facilitator of LEGO® Serious Play®, Kate is also the creator of SUPERCONNECT®, an innovative add-on to the LEGO® Serious Play® method. SUPERCONNECT® enhances the methodology by fostering deeper human connection, psychological safety, and inclusion, and is used by global brands like Virgin, Ikea, and Samsung.

As a frequent media commentator, Kate’s insights have appeared in the Australian Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald, ELLE, Triple J’s Hack, The Globe and Mail (Canada), NPR (US), and MTV. She currently teaches at the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Murdoch University and has previously taught at the Curtin School of Business and the Canadian Film Centre’s New Media Lab in Toronto. Kate has also served as a judge for the NASA Space Apps Challenge and Startup Weekend.

A former TEDx speaker coach, Kate brings over 20 years of international speaking experience, having presented in more than 10 countries and every Australian capital city at events such as SXSW (in both hemispheres), TheWebConf, REMIX Summit, TEDxPerth, PAX AUS, NXNE (Toronto) and the International LEGO Serious Play Conference at LEGOLAND in Denmark.

Recognised as one of WA’s 40 Under 40 and the Australian Computer Society’s Digital Disruptor Professional of the Year, Kate’s work has been showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival, the National Theatre in London, the new Western Australian Museum, and play festivals across the United States and Europe.

She holds a PhD in Internet Studies and Anthropology from Curtin University, where she also served as a Senior Adjunct Research Fellow. Kate is an accredited Mental Health First Aider and a Professional Member of Professional Speakers Australia.
